Help for mothers and children in Yemen

MEDICAL HELP IN CIVIL WAR REGION
People in Yemen are suffering from the consequences of an ongoing civil war (since 2015). During the fighting, medical supplies are repeatedly attacked, including the hospitals run by Doctors Without Borders E. V. In addition, medical staff no longer receive remuneration and are dependent on finding other work.

Anyone, who takes ill or is injured in Yemen and is dependent on medical help, quickly falls on hard times. Mothers and children are especially endangered.

IN DETAIL

Mothers and children

The ongoing civil war has hit the poor country of Yemen hard. There are only a few medical centers left in the entire region around Tais-Al-Huban. With the establishment of the Mother and Child Hospital, the only inpatient facility in the region was created.

Through this offer and help, mothers and children have a chance to survive!

Construction of a Mother and Child Hospital with 134 beds and a gathering area for 450,000 people. There is a maternity ward, a neonatology ward and a ward for children under 5 years, who are malnourished or sick. Particularly high-risk pregnant women with high blood pressure, multiple births or breech presentations will find the help they need to survive their births in this hospital.

  • The survival rate for difficult births has increased sharply.
  • The medical staff is well-trained and prepared for difficult courses of disease and births.
  • The chances of survival of premature babies have increased.
  • The survival rate and medical care of malnourished children has improved.

IN ACTION

YEMEN POVERTY AND HUNGER

The unstable political situation and the closure of the border to international aid organisations leave the population in poverty and hunger. A peace agreement is not in sight. Even during the Corona pandemic, violent conflicts continue to take place.

CLIMATE AND NATURE PROTECTION

The climate is hot and humid and there is hardly any rainfall. It is mostly dry all year round with very hot summers and mild winters.

Education and future

Compulsory education for children in Yemen is in the law, but the educational situation for both boys and girls is still poor.

INTEGRATION AND TOLERANCE

Although the Yemeni constitution includes freedom of belief, it also declares Islam to be the state religion. Non-Muslims may not be elected, but they may vote in elections.
